Damien Balsan

Damien, a General Partner at Buenavista Ventures, is a marketing and sales expert leading the fund’s operations in Boston. With more than twenty-five years of experience in the technology industry, he has excelled in areas such as telecommunications, mobile communications, electronic payments, and digital identity and security. Throughout his career, he has held high-level positions, including General Manager at Gemplus/Gemalto in South America (1994–2001), and subsequently served as Head of NFC at Nokia and Head of Point-of-Sale Partnerships at PayPal (2007–2011).

In addition, Damien co-founded several ventures: Way Systems (2002–2017), which was later acquired by VeriFone; Roam Data, acquired by Ingenico; and LoopPay (2014–2018), which Samsung acquired in 2015 to launch Samsung Pay. From 2015 to 2018, he served as EVP and Head of Business Development at Samsung Pay, contributing significantly to the growth and consolidation of this mobile payment platform.

Damien is also a board member and investor in various startups—such as Sharalike, Realtors 360, Kushki, and Drync—as well as a supporter of non-profit organizations like American Friends of Chartres. He earned an MS in Management from the MIT Sloan School of Management in 2002, strengthening both his academic foundation and his commitment to innovation, growth, and business excellence.
