Envases Soplados presents ‘ECO RANGE’: Sustainable innovation that reduces plastic use by 20%
Envases Soplados has developed a standard product range called ‘ECO RANGE,’ which minimizes environmental impact by reducing the amount of plastic used by 20%, in line with the sustainability guidelines of the European Union.
The growing concern to reduce environmental impact has driven Envases Soplados to design a range of packaging that minimizes the use of raw materials. This innovation was showcased at International Fair of Olive Oil and Allied Industries in May 2023 in Jaén and has been very well received by customers. The ECO RANGE packaging is expected to appear on store shelves soon due to its acceptance by various brands.
Envases Soplados is committed to promoting the use of sustainable packaging and encouraging proper recycling practices in this industry, with the aim of making a significant difference compared to other companies in the sector. The production of plastic from fossil fuels generates CO2 emissions, one of the main greenhouse gases responsible for global warming.
Envases Soplados’ initiative presents a promising solution by reducing plastic consumption by 20%. This significantly contributes to reducing CO2 emissions associated with the production of virgin plastic packaging, fulfilling the company’s commitment to achieve the goals of the Paris Agreement and keep the global temperature increase below 2°C.
The company estimates that ECO RANGE packaging orders in 2023 will reduce raw material production costs by 25%, leading to a reduction of 34 tons of plastic and a decrease in the plastic tax. This will positively impact their customers, who will see a product price reduction of approximately 10%.
The company has also made significant investments in environmental improvements and has increased renewable energy production capacity (approximately 20% of total consumption by 2023) through the expansion of the photovoltaic installation. This results in an extra 2,200,000 kWh of electricity generated annually, allowing for an additional annual reduction of 500 tons of CO2. Envases Soplados produces around 4,500,000 kWh of electricity annually between Spain and Portugal, leading to a carbon emissions offset of 1,000 tons of CO2 equivalent per year.
